of being stranded in the desert.

last night when we went out for dinner we noticed they had our car back up on the lift. maybe they made some progress. i certainly hope so, because if we don't leave today i won't be back to work on time (Monday). i really, really hope they managed to get that broken sensor out to put the new one in. in addition, i really hope that fixes it, because if it doesn't i'm going to be upset. more upset, rather. i cried twice yesterday out of frustration. my appetite is gone and i feel nauseous (definite signs of anxiety for me). things could be a lot worse, but that doesn't really make me feel much better. i'm glad i have my honey with me so i don't have to do this alone. he's about the only thing that's holding me together right now.

~$250 to fly from Vegas to Milwaukee Saturday morning, although that still leaves you a good distance from home.

I'm sorry this has turned out to be such a hassle. At least you got to see the grand canyon and some sights along the way. Try to focus on the positives, and not worry so much about the things you cannot change (said the pot to the kettle).

not your fault by LilFlightTest (2.00 / 0) #13 Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 11:11:17 AM EST
not at all. it was our crazy idea. all i know is that the next time we try to come out by you, we're not driving.

As we often say to each other "I'm not accepting blame". :) But I'm still sorry you went through all that hassle and didn't get here.

Having driven (or rather rode in a car my father was driving) cross country multiple times, yeah, I don't care to ever do that trip again. But you got to see a lot of things that you'd miss flying out here. It's worth driving at least once, which now you've done. There's nothing worth seeing between Needles and here.

Rizzo and I went from Albuquerque to Maine in 54 hours (Thurs - Sat PM) and that included a 10 hour stop in Kansas and dropping off some money at a NY casino.  If they get the car done, even by tomorrow, you can make it.  Try to enjoy that pool and soak up some of the sun -- winter will be here too soon!

I was once stranded in a town of 7 people by Greener (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 05:27:17 PM EST
in the Australian outback for 3 days because the bus was full. The world's longest train went by twice a day but that still left me with 23.5 hours to kill each day.

I don't recall by Greener (2.00 / 0) #8 Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 09:18:23 PM EST
It was over 7 years ago.

On further investigation it may not have been the longest but I think it was the longest in regular service. It was very similar to this but carried coal not ore and ran on a wide gauge track from the Leigh Creek coal mine to the Port Augusta power station in South Austraila.

Aha, found it. Only three engines but it's on pretty flat terrain.

Ya know, by blixco (2.00 / 0) #11 Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 10:30:09 AM EST
there are whole towns in the desert that are settled by people whose cars have broken there.

Everyone I know, knows Las Cruces because something in their car broke there.

One time during a visit (back in 1999) my car broke there, and we almost had to stay.

That being said, it'll be fine. Y'all will sort it out. It's not the end.

we're back on the road. it's just that there's several hours worth of nothing out here. we made it to Utah before stopping, but there's still a lot of nothing....it's slightly cooler nothing, though.
